Phillip is an artist living and working in Denver, Colorado. He is co-president of EDGE Gallery.
Artist Statement
My work is indicative of the human condition. It is a means and a way to express my experiences within that construct.
The simplicity and depth, the journey of self-discovery are the prevalent forces in my pieces. My honest expression of our complex awareness.
There are no succinct words for describing my work. The product of my work is more a refection of the process. Each piece begins with a conception, however the process of creation informs what the final piece becomes. The development of each piece is the cathartic processing of emotion; it is my everyday experiences: from the simple pleasures of life to the redundant frustrations of the human condition. I create with diligence, driven by that awareness. The chaos, the control, the application and the balance/unbalance of coloration are evidence of this internalization. Like a butcher, I start with an un-consumable whole; the additions, separation and removal beyond the foundations ascertain the inherent anatomy within the composition. My work is a purposeful construction of my stumbling upon the idea of awareness.
